Storage and Survey

Anya has completed large scale conservation assessments and condition surveys at the Stanford University Archaeology Collections (SUAC), Yuntanza Museum, Museum of International Folk Art (MOIFA), and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC). During the grand opening of the New Mexico History Museum (NMHM), she was the lead conservator on the collections move and rehousing project. Anya has also performed smaller-scale surveys and collections care projects at numerous institutions.

Stanford University Archaeology Collections Condition Assessment

Anya performed a Detailed Conservation Survey of select cultural items in the Stanford University Archaeology Collections (SUAC, Palo Alto, California) from August 2021-July 2022. The year-long survey was funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). It included all of the anthropological collections housed at SUAC and priority archaeological collections. Working with a conservation technician, together they surveyed more than 4,000 items while keeping condition, cultural sensitivity, and sustainability in mind. Previously, in 2019, Anya also performed a less-detailed conservation assessment for SUAC where she assessed storage and exhibition conditions, evaluated collections policies, and checked the general condition of the collection.  This previous assessment helped SUAC secure the later IMLS Detailed Conservation Survey Grant.

Yuntanza Museum Condition Survey

Anya completed a full condition survey of artifacts on view at the Yuntanza Museum (Okinawa, Japan) in 2015.  She compiled information on the materials, provenance, and condition of the collection, which was provided to the museum to aid in conservation and exhibition decision making. Anya worked closely with the museum staff to learn about Okinawa’s unique culture.

New Mexico History Museum Move & Rehousing Project

From 2008-2010, Anya was the lead conservator on the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) funded project to move objects into and rehouse collections in storage at the recently opened New Mexico History Museum (NMHM, Santa Fe, New Mexico). Working alongside the Project Manager, Patrick Cruz, she ensured the safety of an array of historical objects from large furniture to saddles to delicate glassware.
